Caring for Those in Need

Stephen Ministry. Stephen Ministry is a program that equips lay people to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to individuals in the congregation and community who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. Stephen Ministers receive over 50 hours of training in providing emotional and spiritual care before they are matched with care recipients. Founded in 1975 by the non-profit Christian educational organization Stephen Ministries in St. Louis, the program is now used now used by thousands of congregations worldwide.

Care Community. The Care Community reaches out to First Church members who are ill or otherwise in need, providing meals, visits, cards, flowers, transportation, DVDs of worship services and, most of all, the reassurance of the First Church community’s love and support.

Come for breakfast, stay for lunch! Every Sunday we offer breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to anyone who shows up. It’s a favorite meeting for church groups over pancakes or “two over easy.” Following worship there is coffee and refreshments for those who just want to visit, and a full hot lunch. Meals are delivered to community members who are house-bound.
